At the Milford Readers and Writers Festival in Milford, Pennsylvania on Saturday, September 21, 2019, journalist, author, and activist Helen Zia, a 1973 Princeton alumna, spoke about her book Last Boat Out of Shanghai: The Epic Story of the Chinese who Fled Mao’s Revolution and how she discovered her mother’s harrowing long hidden past. She was joined by Anne A. Cheng, professor of English and American studies, and director of the Program in American Studies, and a 1985 Princeton alumna, to discuss little-documented aspects of this tumultuous historical period.
