Summer Dissertation Support for Research in American Studies

The Program in American Studies invites applications for a small number of competitive research grants to graduate students working towards Ph.D. degrees in topics central to American studies, Asian American studies and/or Latino studies. A few research grants will go to students who are not yet committed to a particular dissertation topic but wish to conduct exploratory research on a topic related to American studies, Asian American studies and/or Latino studies. The expectation is that these awards will go to students for use during their first or second summers as Ph.D. students at Princeton. We expect recipients to present their work at the Program in American Studies graduate symposium in the spring semester of the subsequent academic year and to participate in at least two workshops or other academic events and activities of the program.

Applicants are advised not to make any research-related purchases until notification that their applications have been approved.

Where travel is involved, all applicants must adhere to the guidelines set by the University.

Students should apply for these grants through the University’s SAFE website via the SAFE opportunity “Summer Dissertation Research in American Studies,” where required application materials, deadline and notification dates are detailed.
