Program of Study

The Program in American Studies offers courses that approach “America,” not as a given, but as a rich analytic category that engages with a wide range of perspectives, contexts, and disciplines.  Our course offerings fall under four large organizational rubrics:

  • Race, Ethnicity, and Migration
    • Asian American Studies
    • Latinx Studies
    • Native American/Indigenous Studies
    • African American Studies
    • Comparative Race and Diasporic Studies
  • Arts, Letters, and Culture
  • Law, Policy, and Globalization
  • Gender, Sexuality, and Intersectionality

We offer these categories as study guides for students as they pursue their course of study in the Program, while understanding these categories as far from mutually exclusive.  We strongly encourage students to explore the productive, creative, and at times challenging intersections among these categories.
