Effron Center Summer Dissertation Funding

The Effron Center for the Study of America invites applications for a research grant from  exceptional post-enrolled students working on a dissertation that shows significant engagement with and contribution to the fields of American studies, Asian American studies and/or Latino studies.  Research funding is awarded up to a maximum amount of $2000/yr.

Applications must include the following:  a dissertation abstract, a letter of recommendation from the dissertation advisor or a member of the dissertation committee, a CV, and a research budget.

Applicants are advised not to make any research-related purchases until notification that their applications have been approved.

Where travel is involved, all applicants must adhere to the guidelines set by the University.

Post Project Requirements

Expense Report: Please substantiate all of expenses by uploading receipts in SAFE. Unspent funds are to be returned to the Effron Center for the Study of America.

Research Summary: Award recipients will present their work in the spring semester of the subsequent academic year.

Effron Center Conference Attendance Funding

This funding opportunity is open to graduate students who are pursuing a Ph.D. in topics central to American studies, Asian American studies and Latino studies and are scheduled to present at the annual American Studies Association (ASA) conference or similar interdisciplinary conferences.

If your application is approved, the Effron Center will contribute funding toward the following expenses  associated with presenting at the conference:

  • Economy class airfare
  • Conference registration fee(s)
  • Reasonable accommodations during the conference

Applications must include the following: a description of the conference, including any associated links, an abstract of your paper, the name of the presentation session, and a proposed budget.
